Recently Statista.com reported that Canadian messaging app Kik became the most recent member of the “Unicorn Club.” The namesake of this club — that rare, fictitious, fantasy creature — was adopted because achieving a $1 billion valuation (or higher) as a startup was equally fantasy for most entrepreneurs.
Apparently times are changing. As the chart below suggests, “Unicorn Club” membership has grown by 169 percent since early 2014. A billion dollars ain’t what it used to be.
